How Can Federer Win At French Open 2013?

Roger Federer is playing at French Open 2013 14th time in his career.  This is the slam in which he has worst record.  Because he won this slam only once in 2009.  He was also runner up four times against Rafael Nadal.  Whenever he played well and tried to create opportunity for himself at this tournament, he was stopped by Nadal again and again.  Even during his pomp Federer could not beat the king of clay.  Moreover, he could not take Nadal to even five sets.  If Nadal was not there, Federer would be perhaps the best player of this tournament also.  And his slams would be more than 20.  So his main problem is again Rafael Nadal.  Now Federer fans are looking him again to do well in the tournament.  But it is looking very difficult for him to win this tournament.  But his chances of winning are still there.  But there
should be something special need to happen in this tournament.  Lets take a look.

1) Kind Draw:
The first and foremost thing for Federer's performance is the draw.  The draw should be such that he will not have to face tough or seeded player at least in first four round.  And he should make the short work of early opponent to get prepared or tougher opponent in quarters and semis.  The most important thing is that in which half will he be drawn.  He will be seeded no 3 at 2013 French Open.  He will be either drawn in Djokovic's half or Murray's, which is a good sign, because he will not have to face Nadal before the final.  He should win at least in straight sets till quarter finals, in order to face Murray or Djokovic against whome is considered as underdog.  Therefore a kind draw will be the first step towards his victory.

2) Early Exit Of Nadal:

The only French Open 2009, in which Nadal was ousted in 4th round.  And Federer stole the French Open that year.  If he did not suffer early exit, then Federer perhaps never win this tournament.  This year the same situation can be built. It looks impossible that Nadal will suffer early exit, but anything can happen.  I think early exit of Nadal will increase 50 percent chances of Federer to steal the second French Open as he did in 2009.

3) Get Cheap Points On Serve:

Federer's serve is most important tool to win in short time.  Federer is front runner and his serve plays an important role in this regard.  He should increase firt serve %age and get cheap points on serve.  For this purpose, he should make use of  net and drop shots, which are risky approaches but he can make use of those weapons with disguise.

4) Use Forehand During Rally:

Federer won 17 grand slam titles, because of his best ever forehand in tennis history.  His backhand does not suit to dirt, but he can compensate this deficiency by using forehand frequently.  He plays an attacking game due to which he commits a lot of unforced errors.  He should play attacking but at the same time he should be defensive when it needed.  He should cut down unforced errors especially from backhand wing.  This is only way to win long rallies, which are the part of clay courts of Paris.

5) Make Full Use Of Break Points Opportunities:
Federer's coach Annacone is criticized because he did not groom Federer on break point opportunities.  To win a large contest break points are considerer as defining opportunities of the match.  He should make full use of those opportunities.  He did well at Rome till semi finals.  Because he did not lose a single set.  He converted most of break points he produced.  These are main this, if these things happen at French Open, then it is not difficult to say that Federer will lift his 18th grand slame title in 2013.
